Tenuta
Col d'Orcia is one of the most active wine producers in terms of
research and development in the whole of Tuscany. Important investments
in the viticultural area, year after year, have been concentrated
on obtaining ever increasing quality of grapes.
For many years, in collaboration with the University of Florence,
a substantial number of research projects have been conducted, many
still in progress. The aim of all this research is the improvement
of the grape quality of our vineyards, and is concentrated on planting
systems, agricultural management of the vineyard and clonal selection
of the grape varieties.
Important results include the selection of Col d'Orcia's own genetic
material of Sangiovese high value grapes and Moscadello grapes;
in 1997 the first high-density vineyard planted with such selection
have reached production and we have seen an improvement of the quality
of our Brunello.
With the University of Milan and the collaboration of Professor
Scienza we are currently selecting the best plots of land on our
property for the planting of the new vineyards and the choice of the root-stocks. All these new vineyards
benefit from the knowledge accumulated in 30 years and will continue
to improve the quality of our products.
For centuries the Marone Cinzano family has produced wines with
the knowledge that quality means continuous evolution, continuous
investigation, unrelenting search for new and better ways.
